Letter from Christian Demere

Dear Team,

At Colonial Group, our most important asset is our employees. I truly view this company and all who work here as part of my family, and I want to foster a workplace and provide a benefits program that leads you to feel the same. We are pleased to offer you a comprehensive benefits package to help protect the health and financial welfare of you and your family. Many of these benefits are paid for in whole, or in large part, by the company, with some supplemental options offered that can be elected and paid through the convenience of payroll deductions.

This guide provides a summary of Colonial Group’s benefits program to assist you in making the best decision about your benefits, whether enrolling for the first time, making annual enrollment elections, or changing your benefits due to a qualifying event.

Please take time to review this material carefully and keep this guide as a handy reference tool. Please also feel free to ask your supervisor or someone from our Human Resources Department with any additional questions you may have.

Christian Demere President - Colonial Group, Inc.

Changing your benefits?

Changes During the Year (Life Events)

  • Marriage (copy of your marriage certificate required)
  • Divorce or legal separation
  • Birth, adoption or placement for adoption of an eligible child or legal guardianship of a child (birth certificate or court documents will be required)
  • Change in your or your spouse's work status that affects benefits eligibility
  • A change in your children's eligibility for benefits
  • Becoming eligible for Medicare or Medicaid during the year
  • Death

*Defined by the plan document

Who is eligible for benefits?

Eligible dependents:

  • Your legal spouse
  • Children up to age 26: natural born, adopted, stepchildren and eligible foster children
  • Children over age 26, if disabled
  • Minor child for whom you have legal guardianship, resides with you and primarily dependent on you for support
  • Dependents living out of the Savannah Area need to have their address listed in Plansource.
  • Dependents outside of the SJ/C service area, use First Health Provider Network.

When can I make changes?

There are only certain times when you can make changes to your benefits (including adding/removing eligible family members).

New Hires: Benefit eligible new hires can enroll in benefits within 31 days of their date of hire. If you do not enroll during this initial window, you will have to wait until the next annual Open Enrollment, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

Annual Open Enrollment: All benefit eligible employees have an annual opportunity to make changes to benefits and covered family members. The decisions you make during Open Enrollment will stay in effect through the new plan year, January 1 through December 31, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

During a Qualified Life Event (QLE): You must update your benefit elections in Plansource within 31 calendar days of the Qualified Life Event (QLE).
